AN INVITATION FOR YOU!

A DAY AND A HALF WORKING FOR PEACE THROUGH THE U.N.

The Center for War/Peace Studies, based at the United Nations in New York City, is sponsoring a conference on the date of the United Nations’ 60th birthday, June 26-27, at the Chaminade Conference Center, Santa Cruz, which has a spectacularly beautiful view of Monterey Bay and Pacific beaches, and a surrounding forest garden with its own redwood grove.

The subject of the conference is “What Future for the United Nations?” with the subtitle, “Californians for the U.N.” There will be about 20 individual participants, all supportive and knowledgeable regarding the U.N. A provisional program is attached.

There will be presented ideas for new ways to increase support for the United Nations and to strengthen its efforts, as proclaimed in the first sentence of the U.N. Charter, “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.”

Individuals can participate in one of the following two modes:

1)      Full participation (including accommodation at Chaminade): On Sunday, informal reception in late afternoon, dinner, opening discussion, dialogue, and one night’s accommodation; on Monday, breakfast, morning session, lunch, walk in forest and possible workout in gym, afternoon session and wrap-up. Suggested donation: $300 for each participant, $100 for a spouse or companion who is attending with a full participant.

2)      Conference sessions (no accommodation): Suggested donation - $35 without meals, $100 with meals at Chaminade. (The Center for War/Peace Studies hopes that contributions resulting from the conference will reduce the expected deficit.)
